テーマ・副題

While continuing to advance students’ general English skills, AES also incorporates a focus on the development of formal academic skills. In-class tasks encourage the development of note-taking skills and extend students’ abilities of critical analysis. Throughout the course, students become actively involved in scholarly topics, group discussions and academic listening and reading materials. This course encourages students to develop their essay, report writing and formal presentation skills.

Students who have completed this course should be able to:
1.express ideas clearly, comfortably, and accurately at length in English concerning a number of academic topics
2.compare and contrast the main arguments of related academic readings and lectures through in-class tasks, group work and discussions
3.research, develop a position on, and discuss or debate an academic topic using logically structured arguments, questions, and supporting examples
4.produce an academic report on a specific content-related topic

授業の内容

This course focuses on skills and strategies to improve your ACADEMIC English language performance on each of the fours skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing), and also provides tools for a better understanding of the principles of academic debate and argumentation.

Please note: This syllabus will be modified according to the students' academic performance and needs!
