TOEIC score: 500 or more

テーマ・副題

This is a learner-centered writing course which prepares students for the writing tasks of international English language tests (TOEFL or IELTS) and academic assignments. Firstly, students will investigate the reading and writing sections of the language test. During the course they will develop the skills needed to meet those requirements. Secondly, students will develop the skills required for preparing college-level essays and reports. Particular attention will be paid to formal essay structure, standard citations systems, and use of academic English.

Through this course students will:
1. Develop a better understanding of the structure and requirements of the language proficiency test.
2. Develop reading and writing fluency through intensive and extensive reading.
3. Develop their academic writing skills through essays, reports, and research papers.
4. Analyze and synthesize relevant information from college-level readings and lectures as well as take a position on an issue and argue it persuasively.

授業の内容

This course is designed to integrate reading activities in order to get the students ready for the IELTS and TOEFL tests. Topics from various disciplines will be discussed to help students develop the skills they will need for academic purposes.

平成26年度以前入学者:素点:80~100=優、70~79=良、60~69=可、0~59不可

I hope to do many activities that you will enjoy and at the same time help you improve your writing skills. You may be able to express complex ideas in your own language but to be able to do it in another language requires lots of perseverance and practice. I will try to make this course as interesting as I can and at the same time include topics relevant to your future needs.

受講希望者は、第1タームの授業については初回授業の翌日(土日祝を除く)午前9時までに、第2タームの授業についても第1ターム初回授業の翌日(土日祝を除く)午前9時までに履修登録してください。午前9時に制限人数を超過した場合は、履修登録を締め切り、抽選により受講者を決定します。抽選結果は締め切り日の翌日(土日祝を除く)までに、全学講義棟2号館1階の英語関係掲示板及びWeb学生システムのメッセージでお知らせしますので、必ず確認してください。なお、抽選により受講不可の決定がされた場合は、大学が履修登録を取り消します。また、午前9時に制限人数を超過していない場合は、引き続き履修登録できますが、制限人数に達した時点で履修登録を締め切ります。なお、抽選後にキャンセルが出て空きが生じた場合、再び定員に達するまで先着順で登録することができます。ただし、登録できるのは、当該科目の抽選にはずれた方に限ります。
