テーマ・副題

This is a learner-centered communication course which prepares students for the speaking components of international English language tests, and for delivering presentations in formal academic environments. Firstly, students will investigate the speaking and listening sections of the language test (TOEFL or IELTS) and all other requirements in order to participate in international study at their chosen institution. During the course students will develop the skills needed to meet those requirements. Secondly, this course will focus on the development of university-level academic presentation and discussion skills, required by foreign institutions.

Through this course students will:
1. Develop a better understanding of the structure and requirements of the language proficiency test.
2. Develop a clear understanding of the foreign university and program they intend to enter.
3. Develop their academic communication skills through presentations, discussions, and debates.
4. Analyze and synthesize relevant information from college-level readings and lectures as well as take a position on an issue and argue it persuasively.

授業の内容

Students will be taken systematically through essential matters of giving presentations ― from outlining ideas to using visual aids to handling questions. In addition, students will explore non-verbal communication skills and voice control techniques so that they can better deliver effective and memorable presentations.

Pre-class and post-class activities will include but are not limited to:
- specific language skills development activities assigned as homework;
- careful preparation of necessary class materials.

Class activities will include but are not limited to:
- textbook tasks (as outlined in this syllabus);
- listening exercises, collaborative group work, leading and participating in discussions;
- delivering academic presentations, research tasks, peer evaluation, quizzes.

受講希望者は、第3タームの授業については初回授業の翌日(土日祝を除く)午前9時までに、第4タームの授業についても第3ターム初回授業の翌日(土日祝を除く)午前9時までに履修登録してください。午前9時に制限人数を超過した場合は、履修登録を締め切り、抽選により受講者を決定します。抽選結果は締め切り日の翌日(土日祝を除く)までに、全学講義棟2号館1階の英語関係掲示板及びWeb学生システムのメッセージでお知らせしますので、必ず確認してください。なお、抽選により受講不可の決定がされた場合は、大学が履修登録を取り消します。また、午前9時に制限人数を超過していない場合は、引き続き履修登録できますが、制限人数に達した時点で履修登録を締め切ります。なお、抽選後にキャンセルが出て空きが生じた場合、再び定員に達するまで先着順で登録することができます。ただし、登録できるのは、当該科目の抽選にはずれた方に限ります。
