授業の内容
This course is concerned with the development of housing in Japan between 1945, the end of the Second World War, and the beginning of the 1990s, marked by the burst of the economic bubble. In the postwar period owner-occupied detached housing that spread over the fast suburbs of major Japanese cities became the mainstream. Along with the policies and urban conditions that led to this development, also issues regarding the housing situation and urban planning will be discussed.

学生へのメッセージ
Housing in Japan is often associated with small living spaces, high rents or long commuting times. What are the factors that led to this development? How can this kind of housing and associated problems be described in academic terms? And how do people live who are excluded from this housing system? All students who are interested in questions like these are very welcome to join this course!
